First trout on the fly! (Indian Crk. Report/Pics)
Last night was a big milestone for me. First trout on the fly, and on a fast moving creek too! I was wading along the bank casting downstream with one of these guys:

I would let it drift a little, then pick it up and put it down somewhere else. One of the casts I put the fly right where the slower water near the bank and the rapids in the middle meet. Seconds after laying it down a fish comes clear out of the water to take the fly! I gotta say, the fight on the fly is much, much better than on spinning tackle, it was extremely fun.

Good for you. I want to get out and hit some creeks, but I have too many other things preplanned for the next two weeks.

That is one of my favorite creek flies.

I just wish I could tie better than I do haha, my flies always look like trash. Do you know what I could use as an alternative to calf's hair for the wings on one of these royal wulffs?

Thanks

Suggestion, use a patch of calf "body" hair not the actual tail.

The hair is to long and curly on the tail. The patch is much easier to work and even stack.
Royal Wulff is ago to dry for me and been very good to me lately.

Half right, a Brookie. Water was so clear. It was awesome watching them not only take the dry Wullf, but I had a #18 bead head Prince dropper about 2 feet down and I could see them take that. One of those "perfect" days.

I just assumed it was a tiger by that pattern, man that's cool! I can't seem to catch brook trout any bigger than 7 inches Unsure

Nothing wrong with that! Brookies are cool at any size.

I sure hope so, Ive been making slow steps, haha. I can remember just 3 years ago setting my worm in front of bluegill that could clearly see me. I would drag the worm around in his face till he finally humored me and accepted my offer. Good times for sure
