Fishing

So a couple buddies and I have been fishing a spot on the Weber for the past few months. It has kicked out some nice Browns and Cuttys for us as well as quite a few Whities. The other type of fish we have caught there latley has been suckers. We've caught some big ones. 4 or 5 of them have been well over 20". We had no idea that the state record for Utah Sucker was 6lbs 6oz until after are most recent trip. Here is a picture of one I caught this last trip(08/18) that most likely would have trumped the current record. I'm guessing it was around 26" and close to 8lbs. Needless to say we will be bringing a tape and scale with us on our next trip. Fighting these things is like trying to reel in a pit bull on a fly rod...

Yep there are some biguns in there. I guess I never paid attention to the record on them either. When fishing for other species with nyphs I always managed my share of suckers but they are fun and give great tugs. That one is a monster.

Yeah those guys can be bruits! It has been a long time since I have caught any that big, but I also never paid attention to the record for those guys. Pretty funny.

Nice fish! I wouldn't bother with the tape and scale the DWR won't allow suckers into the record books. Carp is the only non-game fish they allow. Which I think is BS, if you catch the state record fish of any species you should be able to have the title.

I learned this with a big chub at Strawberry.

Looks like the state record Utah Sucker was put into the records books in 2003. Why would they no longer allow a record breaking fish?

ya he wants to be the next sucker to be the record for those dang suckers that roam in the precious dnr hands.
