Bear River Cattin' Info
What's up my fellow anglers,

I recently moved to West Jordan and have been wanting to hit the Bear River for some sumo cat action. I've been reading about and seeing a lot of pics of big cats coming out of there and though I might give it shot. If anyone has any info on where to fish and whatnot I would be so very grateful. Thanks. FISHING!!!!!!

Thanks, man. I was reading online and they said the cattin' is good between Corinne and the Great Salt Lake...I'll have to go check it out pretty soon. I'm just not sure where I can fish because of the bird refuge.

I'm in the same boat as WS, so to speak. Don't know that there's really much Bear river south of Corrinne, thought that's about where it dumps into the refuge - end of the line.

Have dabbled a bit below Cutler dam, and tracing Google maps - the river winds through Tremonton before crossing I-15. Just not sure much public access there is. But some folks do pretty good down by the refuge.

There's a couple boat launches down that way too, though I haven't tried them myself.

Don't have much info about the fishing out there. If you take the Brigham City Forrest St Exit and head west, you'll be out to the Bear River in a few miles. There's some private land out there, but also lots public access to the Bear River. Keep meaning to get out there and try my hand at it, but tooooo busy.

I have always fished down by the refuge. Liver is the bait of choice. Cut Carp, Worms, Chovies, all do not compare to liver and liver stink bait.
Crawfish are dynamite in the spring.

Big Hooks + Big Livers = Big Fish. If you can come across a canoe you can paddle over to some eddies/stumps/slack water and catch fish in seconds. If you are stuck from shore it is a waiting game.

I uploaded a picture of where I fished a couple years ago. The property lines may have changed.

1 - A small cauldron/bridge if you get out early you can catch some carp and minnows here. I have never caught any cats here, but there is a ton of bait.

2- If I remember right, you can walk in to get to the fork. The road is gated off. The fork isn't pressured as much, but every other fish is a yellow belly. A lot of times they don't leave your bait alone long enough for the big kitties to bite it.

3- There is almost always someone here fishing and I think there is a reason, but I haven't hooked anything above 15 inches from here.

4- This is my money spot, especially if you have a canoe. The far side is best, but I have caught some big kitties out of here. Bring a heavy weight the current can be pretty thick. Snags are also an issue.

The Picture with the black hair was taken a few years back and the fish was released.

The other picture was the biggest fish I caught when I was a little kid.

Good Luck

Let me know when you go out to the bear. I have a little less than a month left of the fishing season and then I will be duck hunting until Ice Fishing season.

Dude I'm pumped for ice fishing. I've never been anywhere up here so you'll have to show me the ways. I usually go to Fish Lake or Otter Creek. But I was thinking about hitting the Bear the weekend of Oct 5-6. Fall cattin sometimes is the best cattin. That would be cool if you could come along.

Maybe you'll have to check out the ice fishing challenge. Now you've crossed boundaries - become a northerner? If you're coming as far as the Bear anyway.

Mantua will probably go first. But you've got Willard - bays first, main lake ????aaaahhh????? Pineview, then Causey - whatevers up Ogden Weber canyons.
Up my way we've got Newton, Hyrum, Porcupine. And later on - up to Bear Lake if it freezes up.
I'll probably be hitting some of the Preston lakes - hopefully they'll freeze before year end.

With all the low low reservoirs - it'll be interesting to see what kind of precipitation we get. Might be a real bad year for edges if the lakes are rising.

Man, I am going to be elk hunting that weekend. By elk hunting I mean walking around the woods being scared by pine grouse before finally shooting one with my 30-06.

I like the Jordan River which is down your way. Go just before dusk and catch a bucket of white bass and cut them up and you'll catch kitties all night.

Utah Lake is the same way.

Willard Bay should be good for cats right now, but I have never caught a cat that was really big from there. If you go there, the night before put a package of cheese dogs in your freezer. The frozen cheese dogs will stay on the hook better.

I fish cutler a bit being here in Logan, but I can't find a way to keep the yellow bellies off my hook - They are like ice fishing for perch at fish lake in that you can catch them until you run out of bait.

I love fish lake, well ice fishing at fish lake. I usually make a trip down there about march (Spring Break). I like Panguitch lake too for ice fishing.

Up North I like Rockport and East Canyon being a Morgan boy - I guess it comes natural.

Bear Lake sometimes gets ice, but I don't like ice fishing there it is super sketchy.

Causey is up and down, but really up if you get into a school of kokanee.

I want to hit the burbot bash this year.

It's too bad we found this information out now, my fishing season is going to temporarily end for deer, elk, & duck season.

I'll be back in January drillin holes.
