Fishing

Decided to hit the Berry today before the storm rolls in, started at Renegade, trolled for a bit trying to locate pockets of fish, Found a few and proceeded to throw a jig, Had several light taps but could not hookup, we worked that shoreline for about an hour with nothing to show for it. Proceeded over to another bay close to the inlet to the narrows, can't remember the name, the fish had been in there the past weeks but not today, never marked a fish! Jigged, floated minnows, worms, even went to PB and not even a hit.

We moved again and found some fish, threw out a jig, worked the area hard with no bites.

Had to get back to work so we headed back in skunked n the berry for the 2nd trip in a row.

I really need to pull myself out of this rut, I like to start at renegade, I have fished it successfully for years, but this year I have yet to have a good trip. Is it low water levels? Or is it just me?

Everytime I head up I keep telling myself I need to try new area's on the lake, Its a huge lake, with many hot spots, But everytime I talk myself into hitting "my" holes and keep getting my but kicked.

Maybe the secret is lauch from SC or the main marina, I don't know. Am I alone here, I watch other boats while I am fishing and no one seems to be catching much. Come on November! I have never been let down in November, knock on wood!!!!!

I was there today too with the same results. It sucked. We hit areas where we have done well before but couldn't buy a bite. My friend got one small rainbow to the boat but it shook the hook. We moved trying to locate fish but even when we did they didn't want anything we threw at them. Fickle Strawberry, one day it's fish on and the next day nothing. We never saw any boat catch a thing. Many years ago my parents had a cabin at Clarks camp and I thought I knew Strawberry pretty good but Strawberry doen't fish the way it did then. Hard lake to figure out sometimes.

  I'll be up there for a couple more outings before I lock up The Mistress for the year after hunting season is over. I'm hoping that these reports are just bad timing and the big cutts just haven't hit the feed bag yet.
I invited my father to go fishing with me on my boat for the first time ever, I kind of feel guilty for never inviting him to fish with me but I've only been seriously fishing for about 14 years...mostly chasing bass but I've missed the berry the last couple years because of working in Texas and New York and I'm hoping that things will turn over soon. I've had a couple bass locations take a @#$% on me and I'm hoping the berry isn't the same. Any info, advice or predictions on late October early November trips to the berry this year? I've always done well throwing pointers, swimbaits and jigging but it's been a couple years since I've fished up there. I'll be throwing big baits regardless as I'd rather have one good fish than 10 slots but I'd like to get the old man on some fish. I'm excited to use the new sidescan and gps up there and learn the lake structure a little more but I could always use some help, pm's are welcome.

It's a real hit or miss place from day to day and from boat to boat. Just keep moving and keep changing what you're presenting them. Go faster, go slower etc.

I have been skunked one day up there this year so I feel your pain. I think you're onto something with the trying different areas idea. At least then you can blame it on not knowing this section of the lake.

We were just at SC side fishing a little Sunday and Monday. Sunday was awesome. Monday okay. Same line same retrieve, same fly. But water glass smooth Monday and a slight breeze Sunday.

I say start with different depths, then speed, then lure/fly.

Troller, we are still using the same two flies we have been using all season. Just attaching them to different lines.

Good luck there man, I know what u mean about it being tougher to fish now. A few years ago it was slow in the summer but in the spring and fall it was always dynamite.
