Flygoddess, if you plan to convert it to left-hand retrieve, here's a tip for you: Pull the spool, use a long-nose plier to pull out the wire retaining spring, and take out the roller bearing race. Turn it upside down and replace the spring wire. Done.

If you ever have occasion to disassemble the drag side, the central screw there has a left-hand thread. That means it is RIGHTIE-loosie. I nearly boogered mine up trying to loosen it the usual way before I realized that the harder I twisted it the tighter it got. I'm slow on the uptake some days...

Thanks. I have had and still have several reels like that.
Took awhile to figure it out, but pretty easy now.

Correction, ALL boats are USA made. Talked to Dave and he said "why should I buy from Maxxon when I can make them myself"

Found a few minutes to snap a few shots. Not professional, but passable. Here's my reel, loaded with about 100 yards of backing and a WF-5F line. (Click on the image to see an enlarged view.)

And the drag side

As it turns out, I took a loupe to the barely seen writing on one side of the mounting foot, and while it doesn't say Made in China, it does say "Chi Tian ®" so I think it probably is.

But let's not allow this thread devolve into a bashing contest, okay?

This is the exact reel I bought off aliexpress for $22 shipped and it came with an extra spool. They are definitely chinese made because mine shipped strait from China. I'm pretty sure these are cast and not CNC though. Still a nice reel for the money.

So I finally won one of these reels, it was a 2/3 wt that I was planning on putting on a 3wt im going to be building. The picture I find out was actually a 5/6 wt reel and looks different from the one I got. In the picture it has a polished metal handle and mine had a black plastic one Mad, and this thing was super tiny Unsure, It doesnt even look like it can hold 3wt line let alone some backing. So Im planning on sending it back, I did only pay 23.00 for it so not a total loss but just a waste of time, I guess you cant expect too much for the price, it just seemed really really small, are most 2/3 wt reels really small, it says 60mm outer diameter, is that normal. Other than that it seems pretty decent especially the drag. He said he would issue me a refund, I just dont see why he wouldnt put the right picture up Unsure

Large arbors can be. Traditional I think are deceiving. My latest Allen's 3/4 took maybe 50 feet of backing. Same with the older Battenkills. Small can be nice. Best way to tell is spool your line then see how much space is left for backing.
No picture of this reel?

Ill post one later its at home, it just seems so small and I dont like the handle it just looks cheap maybe I can just replace that? It is a mid arbor and I looked up online and 60mm seems about the right size I just hate when you expect something and get something different, But like I said for 20 bucks I guess its ok, maybe ill just make a 2wt instead of the 3wt.

Two weights are great. When I buy a reel for a specific weight I like to go with the heavier end for the backing reason. Like in Orvis I had the choice of a 1-2-3 or a 4-5-6. Weight was close as far as REEL weight so I went with the 4-5-6 for my 4 wt. But I do have reels I did the opposite to have a smaller reel. I have never been taken into backing with a Utah trout (knock on wood) but close. I just take off running. Great for the cardiovascular LOL

Maybe not what you expected from the pictures you saw but for a $25 2 wt reel it looks fine. As FG mentioned Utah trout don't generally take you to the backing anyway so the limited backing is fine. If you have to pay to ship it back I'd just keep it and give it a try. When I'm using a 2 wt rod and reel it's usually places where a fish over about 16 inches is extremely uncommon. Tell you what if you do keep and don't like it I'll buy it from you for what you paid and save you on shipping costs.

It doesnt even look like it will take 90ft of fly line and I heard you shouldnt cut it, maybe Im wrong but Ill give it a try Unsure

Re: [STEVEF39] New CNC fly reel In reply to
If you are using WF, then no, do not cut the line. But you could use a DT on it and cut it in half.
Plus you end up with extra line when the first wears out. Plus 45' of line and more backing.
Looks can be deceiving though. It might take all 90'.

This is my 2 wt reel and I am sure 2 wt is the max on this reel. Very little backing. It is next to a Traditional CFO and a wine cork so you can get an idea of the size. Keep in mind this is a true Large Arbor.

Has anyone ordered these from Aliexpress? I'm very tempted, but skeptical.

I ordered one and have received the reel and spool. It is a nice die cast reel and extra spool. Especially for $21.
