Fishing

I couldn't resist going fishing despite full moon at Enterprise Reservoir. Lauched my pontoon boat at 8:30 in the morning with no wind. The lake was like glass. I had bought a 1/4 oz. Cutthroat Kastmaster and a 1/4 oz. Firetiger Kastmaster lure that I wanted to try. I tried the Cutthroat lure with no luck for about 30 minutes. Daylight was burning so I put some Garlic Rainbow Powerbait on a treble hook. Got a bite a few minutes later. Skunk off.

Went back to the Kastmaster but no luck with the other pole. So instead of taking off the lure and putting a treble hook on, I put some Powerbait on the Cutthroat pattern lure. Casted it back out and Bam, fish on. Reeled it in, put it in fish basket. Rebaited hook then
Bam, fish on again, reeled it in. Caught 3 trout on the Kastmaster and had my limit by 9:45.

I still wanted to fish so I caught a few more and released them. All the action was over by 10:30 but it was so nice out on the lake I didn't come to shore till 11am.

It was just me on the lake with no other boats. Only small boats can launch from Enterprise because of the low lake levels. There was a bass boat that decided not to launch in the dirt.

I want to try the Firetiger next fishing trip. Now I have got some cooking to do. It sure was nice up there with a high of 73 degrees. I hope to head up there on more time this year.

Sounds like some fun. Just gotta keep trying till you find something that works.

So are those cutties or bows? Or maybe a mix? I'm not familiar with Enterprise, well - unless your talking Star Trek... but I digress.

They are Rainbows. This is the first time I have baited the Kastmaster lure. In mid-June I was fishing with a cutthroat with a pink stripe down the middle. I casted the lure west and had another pole with Powerbait cast to the south. They both hit at the same time. I had to reel in the lure then reel in the Powerbait hook.

I have some Panther Martin lures that I need to try next fishing trip. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone and fish other methods. I know some people bait the Kastmasters with worms but the Garlic Rainbow Powerbait seems to always work for me. There were a couple of guys on the shore that were successful using the Powerbait as well. It felt like somebody threw a switch and the bite was off later in the morning.

I call Kastmasters "cutt-masters".

I have baited my spinners and lures many times. Worms, salmon eggs, cutbait, etc will all work.

Way to report on a place we don't usually get to hear about. Glad to see it on here every once and a while. Keep them coming! How are you going to prep those fish?

I baked them in the oven. I made trout almondine with some lemon juice.

Hey thanks for the report. It's great to hear about some less publicized waters now and again. Those bows look pretty good.

Kastmasters are great. Can't say I've ever baited the hooks, but I've done well with them.

Instead of the cutt pattern, maybe try a gold or the rainbow pattern, both at the 3/8oz weight. Those are money.
