HELP! Winter Bass fishing
I am going fishing tomorrow (1/13/2013) in the Potomac River in Maryland near Glen Eco park. And I would like some help. I need some advise on how to catch bass in the winter in the Potomac.
The fields I need help in are Lures or live bait? What lures should I use? where should I cast for? Any specific locations that are good? or would this just be a wasted journey? Thanks for any help!

dont know much about the Potomac but i know when its cold you cant go wrong with a blk/blu jig worked nice and slow near structure by the channel. of course live bait will always give you an edge

good luck

I was reading from the BASS nation magazine that a good winter lure is a jig head, skirt or no skirt, with a crawdad trailer and find a rocky spot and bounce it inbetween the rocks, because during the winter the bass stay around the rocky areas that are deeper in the water, are 10+ ft depth if i remember right, and they feed on the crawdads that come in and out of the cracks between the rocks. work it slowly, bass wont chase it this time a year.

This is coming a little late but could be handy!

Generally, the body temperature of a bass fish ties with that of the water. The colder the water, less food and oxygen they need, and the slower their heartbeat of the bass. This means at temperatures below 40 degrees, food won't be an issue to the bass, so they're less likely to be attracted by your bait. This makes it harder to catch the bass in very freezing temperatures. In my opinion, making a good catch of bass fish in the cold winter waters is not very obvious. For the best bass fish catch, visit warmer waters.

I like using suspending jerkbaits in cold water. Fished very, very slow. It works best in waters where there are baitfish that the bass feed on. Match the hatch.
