Fishing Report - October 3, 2014
Striped Bass -. There were a few stripers caught in the river this week, as far north as Essex. Rhode Island had some nice size fish on night tides at the Breachways. The fall run has started at Montauk now, with a fair number of teen size fish.

Bluefish - The CT river is holding plenty of choppers. We've heard of them in Essex all the way down to the mouth. The river is still loaded with bunker and the bluefish are taking advantage. Both Saybrook Point and The Causeway have been good, while the DEP has been quiet. There have also been scattered schools on the surface from Branford to Rhode Island chopping up Super Flukes and stealing Deadly Dicks while taking advantage of the abundant bait supply.

Snapper Blues - Starting to thin out now. If you get em, they're gonna be big!

Sea Bass -The best year we've ever seen. Look for deep structure. The Bloody Grounds and Cerebrus Shoal are two good examples.

Blue Crabs - Very few reports.

Porgies -The Sea Bass fishermen report HUGE porgies mixed in with their quarry.

Bonito - False Albacore - We've heard some good reports again this week. Some of the areas to try might be the Watch Hill area, the West Wall, around Fishers Island/Race Rock as well as around Plum Island.

Blackfish - The CT Season will open on friday, October 10th. We'll be ready with LOADS of crabs, Jigs and Rigs, and dont forget to enter our annual Blackfish Contest.

 Fishing Report - October 10, 2014
Striped Bass - The Fall run is on in Rhode Island. We're hearing excellent surf reports from Point Judith to Westerly. There is even a day bite going on with smaller bass feeding on bay anchovies right in the wash. Locally, the boat reports have been spotty. There are still some bass in the river focusing on the abundant bunker and they can be quite large now. We weighed in a river caught 45lb. fish yesterday caught on a bunker chunk. We hear that Montauk has quieted down this past week.

Bluefish - The CT river continues to hold large bluefish. We've heard of them in Essex all the way down to the mouth. The river is still loaded with bunker and the bluefish are taking advantage. We've also heard of bluefish mixed in with the albies in Watch Hill.

Snapper Blues - It looks like it might be over. We've heard very little of them being caught or even targeted this week.

Sea Bass -Continues to be fantastic. Go deep. Look for structure.

Porgies - Lots of good reports this week from the usual spots. Good sizes reported too.

Bonito - False Albacore - We've heard of continuing excellent reports this week from the Watch Hill area as well as out at Montauk. The fish are on small bay anchovies and it seems the nastier the weather the better the fishing is. The Colt Sniper jigs have been the hot lure this week.

Blackfish - It's Open!. We're ready with LOADS of crabs, Jigs and Rigs, and dont forget to enter our annual Blackfish Contest. The season has only been open for a few hours as I'm writing this, but the few reports we've had were good. Not giant fish, but plenty of keepers.

Fishing Report - October 17, 2014 Striped Bass - It seems the fishing in Rhode Island has slowed down considerably this past week while Montauk has been hot again. Locally, we heard from several customers of a huge blitz of schoolie bass last week that stretched for nearly a half mile toward Essex. Fish were in the 18" to 24" range. The local reefs seem to be fishing tough, while action in the Race and Plum Gut has picked up over the last few days.

Bluefish - The CT river is still holding large bluefish to date. We've heard of them in Essex all the way down to the mouth. Yesterday there were fish chasing the bunker right at the Causeway. The river is still holding bunker but expect to see them leave the river shortly.

Sea Bass -Continues to be very good. Go deep. Look for structure.

Porgies - Solid reports this week from the usual spots. Good sizes being reported too.

Bonito - False Albacore - We've heard of continuing good reports this week from the Watch Hill area as well as in eastern Ct especially near New London. We even heard of some racing around the mouth of the Housatonic River. Bonito have been mixing in recently. Someone reportedly caught 10 from shore this week in eastern CT.

Blackfish - It's been a good season so far. Nearly everyone has been reporting good to excellent fishing this past week. The Blackfish contest has opened with a bang. Tom Lemire is already leading with a 12.25 lb. fish.

Please note, we are changing hours again. We will be closing at 6:00 pm during the week beginning Monday the 20th.

Hey Gregg, do you ever fish any of these areas reported on this thread? What is your favorite fish to target?

I try to go after fluke a lot in the summer, but it has been very slow going around here. I pulled the boat out too early as the stripers came up the river in November. Go figure. Crazy hands can't take the cold, so I quit earlier than I use to. My buddy went out Dec. 1st and got some bass. God bless him. NC here I come. Hope to meet up with Bryon down there for steaks and beer.
