Massive fall chinook!
We made out again today and I'm glad we did. Today I beat my personal best for chinook. Not in the amount of fish landed but in size. Some of you might remember a few years ago a springer my son and I caught that was close to 30 lbs. well this fish crushed that personal record. We didn't get an official weight or measurements because it was a wild fish and we didn't want to hurt him. Quick picture and it was back in the pond. I won't say what we guessed the weight at because there is always one or two people who pop off with criticism but there were three of us on the boat today and all of us have physically held and weighed 30lb chinook and this was way bigger than anything the three of us have handled.

I called up powers that be today to see if they might extend area for salmon season up Clearwater way towards Orofino being that there are so many fish coming up. The response after moving me up the chain of command was a absolutely, positively, no. He made comments like, "The fall salmon are on the endangered species list and to just get the permits to take what they have is all that they can do. That the only ones that can harvest these (past Memorial bridge)are native americans. So I made the comment that I was going to be up fishing for steelhead at Thanksgiving in Orofino and could I go into the hatchery and get an eater fish that I could take home. Again the answer was absolutely, positively, no. All these fish are given to the tribes and we are not allowed any. He said that there is something in the works for a couple of years down the line that would allow anglers to harvest a salmon that even has its back antipose fin, that will be interesting to see if it happens. So I guess I have to live my salmon fishing vicariously through your catches chrome! Keep the pictures coming.

Why in the heck would you ever even consider eating an Idaho fall chinook let alone eating one that swam all the way to orofino........... Hit up buoy 10 on the columbia in august for a chromer!

*Theres no head like steelhead*
They came through hell and high water to get here! The least we can do is greet em!

I ate one yesterday and it was one of the best tasting pieces of fish I've had. Meat was firm and white fat oozed through while it was on the grill.
