We've had low water since mid-June & slow fishing apart from the first 10 days of August which were excellent.
Huge numbers of fish waiting in the tidal reaches to run as soon as we get a flood.
No hunting to speak of in the area.

How has the fishing been any better than last year?

Poor this year due to disasterously low water since June. Looks like we may finally get some this weekend with just 10 days of the season to go!

Well that's too bad, hope the water levels improves before the season is over. We have had low water conditions here as well the last few years, hopefully the Winter will add lots of Snow pack in our mountains. Do you have to rely on rain for your water levels there?

Had 3/4" rain yesterday but the river only came up a few inches. Couple of fish caught today & loads more rain tomorrow night. Hopefully we could have a good 4/5 days up to the close on the 12th.
We're totally dependent on rain. No mountains or snow here.

Hopefully you got the rain there today, so the fishing will improve.
Here is Utah, without snow in our mountains during the winters and dams to collect that runoff in the Spring, we would not make it through the Summers. We will go through years of drought, followed by years of heavy snow fall and the end of the droughts. The Eastern part of the USA is a lot like it is there, without rain they would be in trouble, very little snow falls in the Winters there. Good luck to you on the salmon, with what is left of your season.

Blackwater Lodge & Salmon Fishery News - December 10, 2014

Prices Unchanged for 2015.
We dropped our prices significantly two years ago to combat the economic climateand to encourage more anglers to come to the Blackwater.
We are keeping the prices the same for 2015.
Salmon fishing on the renowned Cork Blackwater for between Ä15 - Ä80 per day depending on the season.
Please see our website for details:

and donít hesitate to contact us if you would like any further information or would like to make a reservation for the coming season.

Winter spawning
There is an excellent stock of spawning fish on the upper Blackwater according to Fisheries officers.
Interestingly, their behaviour this year is unusual in that they are running to the spawning grounds & spawning immediately
which is rather early especially as we have had a mild winter so far. Perhaps they know more about the coming weather than we do!

2015 Fishing Season
There are no changes in the fishing regulations for the coming season,
apart from the fact that the season will revert to closing on September 30th.*
For the last 3 years, the Blackwater benefited from an extension to the salmon season to October 12.
The Minister has decided not to continue this in 2015.
The quota for the river is 5,752 which is the second highest in the country next to the Moy.
