What Pressure?

by: Eric Elshere
When you go out to the lake, do you ever wonder why the fishing is so bad? I mean, the conditions are perfect: Cloudy, a little chilly, and the water temp is just right. Well that one ingredient that could be missing is the air pressure in the atmosphere. If you are fishing and the barometer is reading above the 30's, you would be best to stay home and get more sleep. Or if you choose to fish, these will be the hardest days to fish.

The biggest key to catching these bass during the cold winter months is to have the lowest air pressure available. If it is high and suddenly drops down a little bit, expect the bass to start to move around a bit. I have had days like this, catch nothing one day, then the pressure drops and you can have a great day of fishing. SO if you don't have a barometer in your house or on your boat, I suggest getting one because it can make all the difference in the world when trying to catch these bass during the cold winter months.

Take a look at this picture of a nice 6.5 pound bass I got a week ago, fishing the day of a slight drop in the pressure. I suggest highly that you read your barometer and these bass of the winter will bite a lot better. Hope this helps you understand the lock jaw of these cold winter bass. Hit the low pressure and you will hit good bass. God Bless and Good Luck fishing!
