Sweet!. Is it for a 3 weight, what is the weight, and what is the diameter?
I mean you don't want a big diameter, 5 weight reel on a 3 wt. do you?

The outside diameter of the reel is 3.27 inches, the spool inner diameter is 2.44 inches and the spool width is 1.34 inches. The reel weighs 3.54 ounces.

It is more like a 5wt size but 3wt weight. I like the little bigger spool so the line does not coil up as bad as on standard 3wt reel.

Yup. I have mine on a TRADITIONAL reel. (the Tibor Spring Creek) It is a very small reel. Plus it is in the garage so a little cool with out midnight temps in the upper 20's lower 30's.

I just peeled off like 20 or so feet. Slight curl, shook the line once...curl gone.
The higher priced lines have little or no memory.

Oh, and it has been several months since I have used the STII line.

I seeeeeeee. I took mine out of the box just to see and
yes you are right. Very little of curl. I stretch it a little and
curls are gone.

Now, how come my sage bass line curls like crazy ?

Sage makes it. It comes with the Sage bass rod.

I would understand if it was cold. I mean the Bass is a warm water fish, so it makes sense the line would not do well in the cold.

In my area, we look for lines that do work well in cold.
The only lines I have really had a problem with are the clear lines. Because of what they are made of with no core so to speak.
Cortland clear camo isn't as bad as some, and I hear the new Airflo isn't bad...got to love technology.

Yeah, clear lines are pain in cold. I will need more advise
from you before I go to Eastern SIerra (cold) next time.

i was refering to the ribbingthat the airflow lines have..can be rough on hands when handled alot..nice for distance not always fun to use..some people will slice it with the smother lines so they donnt have to handle the airflow line as much but still get the advantages..

RIBBING? Are we talking the same line? I have ridgeline and the name says it all. They are ridges not ribs. They run the length of the line not across.
You shouldn't feel it at all. Or even notice it, and no noise.
Less line touching means less resistance and more distance.

this is what im talking about,,airflow has a slightly spiral design and ridges a little higher,,i have heard ridgeline is close bot easier to handle...dont know much more about it

No spiral to me. I love the line and it will add at feet to a cast because of the design and it floats like a cork.
My only complaint is mine being the older line has bad memory and is curly in the cold. Summer or warmer months is is the best.

im more or less going on reports af freinds..and wathing them using it tried it once.on a buddys rod felt good liked the distance..did feel a little rough.on the edges not bad though.the desighn does give you les resistance...more distance and the hollow core allows it to float high..you ever tri frogs hair same fetures no ribbing.and no memory even in cold weather

How do you fish it? It is a shooting/running line. No taper. Are you attaching shooting heads or what?

I see it being like Amnesia, which is an aid to whatever line you already have, to help add distance.

I know steelheaders use this, but have no idea how it works with regular fishing.

This is quote from brief History of Shooting Lines
"Another new shooting line that also has friction reducing ridges on its surface is the Airflo Ridge Line. This line is more supple than monofilament and handles really well. Since the friction reducing ridges run lengthwise of the line they are pretty easy on your hands."

It also makes mention of the Frogs Hair and some others you might want to check out.

yes its a spey line..shooting line and shooting head is usally added..i use the frogs hair myself..its aloy like sharksskin..you know that i think

here i go hijaking a post again.but i think youd like the frogs hair lttle thicker then the sharks skin[hollow core line]but casts alot like it..alittle more durable

Hey guys it is always best to start a new thread for a new subject. It is much easier that way to follow the discussion at hand. Oh yeah I know I have been guilty of not following this suggestion, but we all get caught up in the heat of a discussion some times.

I think the discussion got a little to the side when Peter and FG started talking about the line he got with his bass rod.. I dont see it so much as a side track but an enhancement to the original post on the reel.. but thats just my point of view... :-)

sorry guy have a bad habit of taking small parts of a post and somehow changing its direction..not intentional..watch my self in the future

Id thought of moving the line discussion to a new thread but did not because I thought line and reel go hand in hand.. figured we were all learning a little more about good lines that could go on to the new reel Peter bought for his new rod.. :-)

Ok, the reel is a little too big. I will use it on my 5wt or 7wt.
I have a temp. reel that I use for now.
I did try that rod and line in my local park and I LOVE it.
I cant wait to use it on real fish .

hope that happens for you soon... I really like my launch but it is a 6wt.. curious on the 3 wt... :-)

Yeah, me too. What I can tell from the park casting (in wind) its a great little rod. I was able to make 60'+ casts
no problem . Now, it was windy that day so I was not
going for any kinda "delicate" casting.
I will let you know later when I get to practice with it
so more.

When not fishing, I keep my fly lines in a pizza box.
One guy at the lake always takes his fly line off the reel and stretches it befor he starts fishing. I just wait for a big fish to stretch mine.

i use a large cd case i can hold different lines and 4 different shooting heads..works good..if you presoak the line it will be nice and soft no curlds or kinks..works for me..

I put the ones I am not using at the time back on a spool...."E-Z-Winder"
But I usually never use that line again. It goes on the spool because I have up graded.

that sounds like a good idea..cd case mainly for diferent shooting heads..but i will change up every thing sometimes..depending on situation..

I like that pizza box idea . When comes to stretching the line before fishing- YES. That is always a good
thing to do if you can.

Can't say I have ever stretched a line....go figure. Never recall needing to.
Ridgeline maybe, but I just don't use it in the winter because of that.
