Anyone know anything about my pole.
I did some work for a pole that I could use sturgeon fishing. it seems up to the task but I would like to know more about it. It is an Olympic 4011 -fg and the reel is a Penn Longbeach no.67. i cant find anything on the web. It says s.w. spinning on the side but not much else.

Don't know much about the rod but the reel is up to the task. It's an older reel that's discontinued as far as I know but it is a good reel. I have had the pleasure of fishing with a great sturgeon fisherman on the Utah board (you may want to drop by the Utah board there are some great sturgeon fisherman there) here and he put us on some really big fish. The reel should be good although if your on really big sturgeon you may want to pay special attention to how the drag is set because those fish can fight!

It will be a back and forth on the drag for sure, to loose and they will likely throw your hook when they jump out of the water and to tight and you know how that goes.

with out being able to see it, it makes me wonder if you have picked up a Surf Rod?

surf rods have handles about 2-3 past the reel for sticking in to the sand at the beach.

it may also be a trolling rod. the handle would be about a foot past the spool

Any rod that is used for salmon, carp, big cats, trolling or surf fishing should be able handle a stergeon.

posting photos will help to identify your rod at least experienced anglers can tell you for a fact if the rod is suitable for stergeon by the way it is built.

If the Lord's willing, You'll be Blessed.
