Fishing tips?
How's it going guys, just joined this fourm my name is Kyle im 17 years old and ive been addicted to fishing since as long as i can remember. I go down to my local lake atleast once a week sometimes ill be down there 3-4times a week. I fish in a decently big freshwater lake i live in long island so i would say its rare to catch atleast a 5lber ive never caughing a 5lber but thats my goal. Currently the lake i fish at is stocked with Pickerel, carp, Largemouth/Smallmouth, Bluegils, Perch, and Catfish. There are also loaded with shiners.. I catch the shiners for live bait. They work wonders but my question is how do i hook the fish efficently to keep him alive and hook the fish? I usually pull the fish up with huge hit marks on the fishes side or when the fish takes the float under i can never seem to him the... Does anyone have advice for this? Anything is highly appreicated. Thanks for reading this i look forward to making new fishing friends on this fourm.

Hey Kellis I can hopefully help you a little. My first question is what kind of hooks are you using? I think thats the first thing you need to take a look at. When I fish live shiners I hook them under the chin. The should be like a V under the shiners chin an I put it through that. There is a hard spot you can run the hook through at the beginning of the V. If you go to far back you will kill it. It might take a few times but just try hooking under the chin. This should allow you to keep them alive.

Several different ways you can do it. Under the chin, through the dorsal fin area of its body (Just dont go down TOO far or youll kill it), or through the tailfin area.
When you see my lady The Tempest float by, you know you've lost. The fish are all gone. Stop fishing then and there and quit with dignity, brah.

Sorry very busy day yesterday, But i use 2/0 Eagleclaw hooks. Just a standard J-hook. I went fishing yesterday and whenver i use shiners they always get slammed and wounded but the fish never seem to take it under and actually hold onto the fish... What could be the cause of this?
