WASHINGTON -- American Honda Motor Co., Inc. is recalling about 200,000 all-terrain vehicles.
The company says the steering rods on the 2004-2005 ATVs can separate, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
Honda has received 27 reports of steering rod separation. No injuries have been reported.
The recall includes 2004-2005 FourTrax Honda ATVs. The ATVs are red, olive, yellow or blue and have "Honda" written on the fuel tank.
The models affected by the recall include: 2005 TRX250TE/TM, 2004-2005 TRX350FE/FM/TE/TM, 2004-2005 TRX400FA/FGA, 2005 TRX500FE/FM/TM, 2005 TRX500FA/FGA, 2005 TRX650FA/FGA.
Honda motorcycle dealers nationwide sold the recalled ATVs from August 2003 through February 2005 for between $3,600 and $8,000.
Consumers should stop using the recalled ATVs immediately.
Registered owners of the vehicles will be notified directly by American Honda about the recall. All recalled vehicles will be repaired free of charge.
Consumers can call Honda at (866) 784-1870 or visit the company's Web site for more recall information.
