SPIRIT LAKE, IA—The father-and-son team of Phil and Jeff Morse of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and Toledo, Ohio, respectively, recently took top honors at the Arctic Cat Trap Attack Open on Iowa's bull bluegill factory, Lake Okoboji.

Jeff and Phil Morse, center team, took first place in the recent Trap Attack Open on Iowa's Lake Okoboji.

Like most teams, the anglers started the February 29 event sight-fishing small jigs, but pulled away from the pack when they tied tungsten bead-head flies on 4-pound fluorocarbon. Their 15-fish limit of bluegills tipped the scales at 8.97 pounds, earning them a $2,000 first-place check, as well as qualification for the $50,000 2005 North American Ice Fishing Championship in Alexandria, Minnesota next winter.

Wisconsinites Patrick Sobota and Scottie Sonsla took second place with 8.55 pounds, and Sean Kinsman and Dan Erath of Illinois, claimed third with 8.39 pounds.

Bass are toys. Gills and Trout are food.
