My son and I were at Buckboard today and caught 3 Ling. 16" 18" 20". The 18"er was full of eggs. We found about 9" of clear ice with lots of poping and cracking. They started to hit just before sundown and we only stayed until 6:30.

The Green River and Rock Springs Chamber's want to expand it to include a derby next year if enough people show up. This will not effect me either way because this is something they will be running but the local folks could make this happen if enough of them show up to support this years event. I guess time will tell.

I'm trying to get some direction and a map up for you....
Personally, if you go through Mt. View, I would go clear through Manilla and not take the cut off at McKinnon...
The road is in need of serious repairs, and I believe the actual speed limit is 45 for the whole road...so you won't save any time, and may loose a few teeth...Frown
I went to mapquest and checked out the mileage...and it's about 35 minutes faster and 35 miles closer to go through Green River.
I'll try and get you some solid driving directions tomorrow....

GR
1. Start out going SOUTHEAST on W FLAMING GORGE WAY/I-80 BL/US-30 BL toward WILD HORSE CANYON RD.1.5 mi

so who is puting on your talk's about the ling ?you know the how to's and such?look's like to me the chamber for green river and rockspring's is takin it away from bft.lmfao so what's the deal is there a set schedule or you just winging it like last yr?

Re: [fishley] Post your burbot bash questions here In reply to
Ryno is doing the talk about ling catch methods and the filleting demo but he did ask me if there was anyone else that had volunteered to help.
I told the chamber if they are interested in taking the Bash over next year they are more than welcome. There is some talk about expanding it into a Derby, so that should increase the interest in the Bash also. I think it would be different if I lived closer but it is really hard to work out details with the local folks when I'm this far away.
Here is the schedule for this years bash:
1-2pm; give away starts for those that have signed up with BFT, also tickets will given out at this time for those not signed up through BFT.
2-2:15pm; Talk about history of the ling in the Gorge.
2:15-3pm; How to rig for the ling and related info, where to fish for them and what to do if your not catching them. Any questions folks might have.
3pm; Filleting ling and cooking demos
3:30-4pm; we will start the second round of give aways for folks that did not sign up through BFT.
The Green River chamber might have other plans, so this schedule could
change but that is the plan right now.

Thanks for the directions Gorgerunner. Any and all direction will really help. A lot of these guys have never been to Buck board so those directions will help a lot.

Probably the fastest way to Buckboard is through Green River...If you are coming east on I-80, take the 2nd exit (91)...bear right at the first light, and over the overpass...you will be on Uinta drive..straight outta town about 24 miles and you will see the turnoff for Buckboard.
I checked mileage and time on mapquest and it's about 35 miles closer and 35 minutes faster than going through Mt. View, plus you can stop in GR and fuel, eat, and pick up supplies.
If you are staying in Green River at the Oak Tree Inn, take the first exit (89)...the Oak Tree is just off the exit...and from there you just travel down Flaming Gorge Way to the second stop light, hang a left up over the overpass and you are on Uinta again...

I couldn't find any good maps to post....sorry

Hope this helps....the mapquest directions were pretty confusing...Smile

I just found out that the KOA in Rock Springs has lodging and are offering:
14x35 lodges, 2-6 people over night for $100. There are stoves, dishes, fridge, nice tv, dvd player, a perfect comfortable getaway for someone's group not wanting a normal motel room for a lot less money. The offer is a $40 discount. If more than one group wishes to reserve a lodge, call her and they will de winterize other lodges too. Call to reserve: Gloria, 248-818-0371.........lodges are a very quaint log scheme, very nice. Full sized fridge, microwave, oven, bath and shower.

Can we get a Jackpot going at the Bash?

Maybe $5 for biggest and $5 for the most caught. With as many members going that would add up to a pretty good pot.

"A few more tid bits, called Wind River Sporting goods (otherwise known as Ace Hardware) and they said they have plenty of bait (chub/sucker meat, worms, mealies and such)."

Just a small correction,Ace Hardware and Wind River Sporting are NOT the same place. Two different business that are almost next door to each other.

I know, just so much easier for anyone not associated with Green River to find "Ace Hardware" then it is for them to find Wind River Sporting Good. I know you understand...

If there is a derby next year that is a possibility but we will not be doing that this year. You can always get a jackpot going with the group you fish with.

Weather for the Bash looks possibly snowy. I was wondering if anyone knew how well the roads from Green River to Buckboard were maintained? I am very unfamiliar with the area and want to be prepared, ie: chains, 4x4 etc. I know this may be "jumping the gun" due to the length of time between now and then but Weather.com is usually fairly accurate. Thanks in advance,
Chris

The climb up the hill coming from Green River can be sketchy in bad weather but the road is usually maintained pretty well. As soon as you leave GR you climb elevation and you are 'on top' so the wind can mess up the roads but unless you are in a situation where you are thinking about turning around 4-wheel drive is good enough. The worst part is right out of GR, if you can make that the rest is easy...just be careful of course.

fsh4fun05 is correct, the road is well maintained, you really should not have a problem if your driving a 4x4. If your in a two wheel drive car you should be fine, if it is front wheel drive.
