I'm also looking to head down there this weekend. Hopefully someone will report and let us know how the edges are!

I was at Fish Lake on Saturday. Edges were fine then.

just look up at the mountains and tell me what you see: white.

Fish Lake is at nearly 9000 feet elevation. The edges are fine. We still have nearly a month of ice fishing left up there....

I couldn't help it. It just popped in there.

=) Very true. It just makes me wonder when the highs are consistently around 60 degrees up there...and the lows are barely freezing.

edges are always a concern. One thing to keep in mind is that Fish Lake is a natural lake. It's water level doesn't fluctuate very much. Reservoirs, on the other hand, should be filling up right now, which will exacerbate shoreline ice and access.

right now, Fish Lake should be just fine.

Was up there Monday. Ice was about 18" and solid, but 2-3" of water on top by late afternoon. Everything was frozen in the morning with lows in the 20's, but I don't know if it's been getting much below freezing with as warm as it's been.

Did you head down today? How was the fishing? I'm hoping to head down Monday unless you tell me it was awful. Tongue

Doubt this will be useful to anyone so late in the season...

Fished Fish Lake Monday, March 20 and fishing was fair at best. We arrived to 44 degree temps (8am). Saw a few areas where there was open water near the shoreline. Drove to the north end and didn't see anyone on the lake at all. We were hesitant to get on the ice.

We drove back to the south end and found a spot to test out the ice. It was a little soft right near the edges but we were able to get on easily enough. Drilled a test hole not too far out and found 4-8 inches of "rotten stuff" for the top layer but then found 6-10 inches of what looked like good solid ice underneath. We ventured out to the swiss cheese weed line and found the same ice thickness.

We got into the perch easily but never found fast action for the trout. We didn't move around too much b/c the top rotten layer was a little unnerving as you'd often break through the top 2-4 inches. =)

We were the only 2 on the entire lake until a 3rd gentleman fished near us on the south end after about an hour.

Between the 2 of us we ended with 10-20 splake/rainbows and a bunch of perch after 3-4 hours of fishing.
