Hyrum 1-17
Headed over early this am with the snow coming down, besides hooking up with Jeff , his Father in Law Rich and Bob again is was going to be a good day to try out the new shelter. Parked at swim beach and there were 2 other groups heading out, loaded the sled and headed out to the 35’ line and drilled some holes and checked the sonar for fish, 2nd hole had good schools (picture below) so set up there. Was setting up the shelter when Jeff arrived with his crew. After getting set up and dropping the worm tipped tungsten jigs to the bottom action for me was good, at times couldn’t get down past 15th without hooking up. Just before Bob showed up the bite had slowed down so I went out and did some drilling to see if I could locate the school. After finding some I relocated and again had a good flurry of action but here it seemed about 5’ up off the bottom was where the active feeders were, slowed down around 1 and I pulled the plug and headed home around 2, kept 6 that were over 8”. Good fishing with the guys today and meeting Jeff’s nephews, safe travels in your upcoming adventure. The shelter was great, never had fished out of one before and with the little wind we had it made it real nice, the heater really warmed it up.

Yep - fun, easy day. Iced 21 perch and released all of them. I was the last one to arrive at about 10:15 and the last one to leave about 2:30. I think next week, I'll hit Rockport for the first time this ice season. It produced some excellent perch fishing last year.

Hey Alan, yes that was my start of a low catching weekend... Only caught two at Hyrum, followed by one crappie that evening, and one crappie the next day... But had a funeral, so most of the day was spent there... Then Monday I got another crappie in the morning and 3 sunfish in the evening... considering I fished more than I have the rest of the ice season, it wasn't very good results... Time to pick up my game... I did catch the sunfish on my new home built pole, so that was nice to finally get something on it... Hope it wasn't my bad luck charm... Size never got very big either 8" perch and 8-10" crappie and 3" sunfish... Next week I better do better... Good luck in Cali... Later Jeff
