The burbot catching is best in the late evening or night, so it would be best if folks come prepared to stay on the ice for a while. How long you stay will be up to you but on my last two trips we stayed until 10 and 11pm. The place that I want to have this event will not require ATV's or snowmobiles, you will be able to walk less than 100 yds or no more than 1/2 mile and you can drive right down to the ice. This event is for BFT members and their families, but other folks are welcome. Only BFT member will qualify for the give aways . Yes burbot are great eating, similar to cod but not as good as walleye. Fishley recently caught some that were 36 inches long but I would say they average 20 to 22 inches depending on the area. They can be fun to catch when you get into them but they are very slimy.

Do you own a ice fishing hut? I cant imagine being out that late sitting with my bare butt on the ice. Or am I just a sissy. Dont answer that.

That Mountain Dew commercial is a crock. Ain't no lightning strike in the kitchen.

Count me in again. Once fishable ice forms somewhere at the Gorge I will likely be hitting it twice each month this season. I will be staying for about 2 days at a time. Smile

Sounds good and maybe since we are all fellow BFTers we could arrange some car pooling options when it gets closer to the event.

Unsure that was in feb. so what location are you planning on? it sounds just like where we fished. walked about 50 yrds . hope its only half frozen then like last yr. i will take the boat for sure!!!

Hazmattr- Yes I own a ice fishing tent and anyone that plans to be on the ice with us for any length of time should have one also.
Fatkidfishin- Yes, I think that would be a good idea. I'm sure a few members will be going that will have room for one or more folks. I'll start a list as soon as a few more details are worked out.
Coldfooter- I'm thinking about having the bash sometime in January depending on the ice conditions. The 10th of that month is the date I'm shooting for.
Crossineyes- Right now I'm looking at having the burbot bash at Lost Dog and the Confluence because it will be some of the first ice to freeze. Firehole freezes earlier but there is a limited amount of space there and it is a longer drive.

First week of January sounds good, the second week I will be in Seattle. Not expecting you to hold it up for me but the first week is also holiday time that a lot of members might have time off of work also. I should have room for 1 or 2 people as well. Can't wait for this event. Thanks for putting it together.

I am in, with a couple others as well. Don't have any experience ice fishing, so we will be newbies, but really want to get out on the ice and try it out. a couple questions, though. What equipment are we going to need? I plan on buying the rods, and a shelter, but beyond that, we are pretty clueless, so any pointers would be really appreciated. Hard water sounds like alot of fun.

Fatkidfishin- The date I'm shooting for is Jan 10th.
Dubob- Thanks for the offer to help and yes I can use it if all these people show up. I'm hoping we can break everyone down into smaller groups of say 10ea for some help on how to catch them.
New2bass- Here are the key items you will need beside the ice tent and warm clothes.
1. Two or three inch glow tube jigs or curly tail jigs.
2. Sucker meat, although carp or chub should work.
3. Crawfish scent like Smellyjelly brand.
Look for these items at places like Sportsmans Warehouse or any other sporting goods stores.

I'M IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING SEVERAL POTENTIAL SPONSORS THAT HOPEFULLY WILL DONATE ITEMS THAT WE WILL GIVE AWAY AT THIS EVENT. THE FIRST SPONSOR TO GET ON BOARD IS MANIAC LURE, THANKS JAMES.

Hey Curt, something you should look into is the number of rods we can have. WY. license people can have like 6 each. I heard something or someone say about them letting UT. license have the same without any other fees other then the stamp. that would be ok with me. later chuck
