Utah Lake Restoration Project
Well, the meeting was more or less a success. Standing room only. They need to get a bigger room next time.At least people are interested.
There was a spokesperson representing the June Sucker people, and one of the Loy brothers was there to represent the commercial fishing interests.
I was suprised that the DWR didn't bother to have anyone there.
The meeting was mostly just to see how many people are interested in the issue. The biggest problem will be funding. And keeping the different parties from turning the whole project into a Political nightmare.
Private developers will need to get involved, and the state government. Most people feel that the State government doen't care about things that happen south of the point of the mountain. But, since Salt Lake owns the water in Utah Lake, maybe someone will want to save it and make it better.
We just have to see who gets involved.

Thanks for the update. I wanted to go, but had previous engagements. Did they say when/where the next meeting will be?

See you on the water!

Thanks Bob, for keeping us up to date on this project, lets hope enough people get involved that the outcome will be positive. Utah lake is a great resource that we all need to help protect, lets just hope the farmers and the different cities around the lake feel the same way. Let me know if I can help in any way and I hope others here at BFT feel the same. Keep us up dated Bob and thanks again. WH2

Hey E.S., and anyone else intersted in this project, they don't have a date yet for the next meeting. Aguy at the meeting just happens to have a web site set up for Utah Lake, so I'm sure it will get used to keep people informed. It's www.utahlake.net I logged on this morning and registered, to make sure the site works and such. No moderators yet. Go ahead and register on the site. Lets see how many folks take advantage of it and how much it gets used now that we know about it.
I allready think there will be some serious problems with all the folks they are trying to involve in this. The tree people are going to fight the developers and the June Sucker people are going to try and get all the non-native fish removed. Thats going to cause problems with me and other walleye and bass lovers.
Hey, should be fun to see what happens.

I just hope everyone can put aside their differences for now and all agree that the problems lye in water quality/clarity and depth. Once we get those things in order we can put the boxing gloves back on.

I've also registered at the website. No action yet, not unlike my trip to Utah Lake tonight. At least I wasn't alone in getting skunked, I didn't see anyone else with their rods bent either.

See you on the water!

I missed this water quality meeting. Thanks for going Bob. In addition to Utah lakes problems, the Provo River also has water quality problems. I live in Provo. As the river leaves Provo canyon and moves towards Utah lake it picks up a lot of "unatural water" conditions. (Excessive Moss Growth, Old Tires, Shopping Carts, #*!&*)

It is a shame that this section of the Provo River, which flows through my valley, isn't a blue-ribbon trout stream! How do we get the political muscle to change this situation? A cleaner river would be benneficial for Utah Lake as well. A cleaner Utah lake would make a lot people happy. We need to let the (political people) know how "we" (the fishing pubclic and all other interested groups)feel about this important situation.

wow Bob us farther south figured Utah stopped at Utah County line.

I have fished Utah Lake a couple of times and had a blast, but it sound slike there is a need to do something with it.

What can us people farther south do to help? I myself need to know all the issues before I take sides but if it doesn't hurt the enviroment I'm all in
