Monster 17lb 6oz Snakehead
6 ounces from a WORLD RECORD, Northern Snakehead the true FRANKENFISH.
This monster was caught in Accokeek creek at Crows Nest in Stafford, VA a small creek connecting to the Potomac River. The fish weighed in at 17lbs 6oz, which was 6oz off the certified IGFA World Record. The Snakehead was just over 35" or almost 3ft in length. This monster Snakehead fell to a frog while fishing the end of the falling tide.

Nice fish. My wife and I will be coming to Virginia in September for a week a d want to do some fishing. I thought I would check some reports and see what to plan for but this board doesn't have much action. We will be staying in Williamsburg are there tackleshops close by? Or do you have any recommendations? Thanks Marc and tight lines. Fish On

Depends on what you are after but after living in Richmond for several months while TDY there, I can say there are some big rivers there but I just went out on the party boats and mainly fished around Newport News, just a little SE of Williamsburg. There is so much history in that area that we spent most of our free time going to different historical sites. Very cool area to explore.

I am sure the 8 days will fly by. But I think it's sacrilegious to go that far and not wet a line. Cool

I hear you, here is one of the local party boats in that area, $40 isn't too bad and that includes everything but it is mainly for smaller fish like croaker and flounder, the smaller charter boats cost a lot more but in general you catch larger fish.

I don't fish to much in that area, but as already mentioned there is a ton of history in that area if that's something your interested in. As far as fishing, there are plenty of small lakes, rivers, and streams in the area...plus many of the marina areas are open to shore fishing. Like mentioned as well, the party head boats that go out are a awesome deal as far as just catching some fish...this is normally the route I take when we are in the area as it is cheap and simple. Sure you will not be catching giants, but its steady action normally.
