Tim

Fizzers are a plug type lure that have small propeller blades on the front and/or rear of the lure. Same type of hook set up as a popper, but they usually have a cigar shaped body and you work them on the surface as well.

So instead of getting a popping action out of the lure, you work it like a crank bait in short shart jerks and it makes a "fizz" noise. Just like a spooked baitfish!

Aggressive fish with predator type "attacks" on baits often like them for that reason. One brand name that comes to mind is a "Wood Chopper". MirrOlure as make a few models as well.

They are also good if you want to work a peice of water inch by inch and have you lure out their as long as possible.

The technique is almost the opposite of using a popper. Slow retrieve, stop, short rod jerk to make it fizz, let it sit for a bit, small retrieve, short rod jerk and so on.

Often you get no warning that the fizzer is going to get hit because fish usually come straight up underneath them and the next thing you know "BANG". There on! Red hot lure in creeks and tidal estuaries too.

Where as with poppers, you can get a few miss hits by the fish and at least sight them ocassionally.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve - The MJB
BFT Lures/Baits
http://www.demonjigs.com
