Fishin For The Mission - hollygolightly - 05-15-2002

Fishin for the Mission 2002 - July 18th – 20th, Loreto, Mexico
CHECK IT OUT! WWW.FISHINFORTHEMISSION.COM

History:
This Tournament was founded by Jim Duggins of Duggins Construction in 1993 and until now has been a private word of mouth contest with about 15 boats and 60 participants. The Tournament is for Charity, with all proceeds (less cost of the awards meal) going to the Mission of Loreto. We have decided to open it up to the public in hopes of generating more money for the Mission.

The only conditions that the participants must comply with are:

To understand this Tournament is being held with the good intention to help the local people of the Loreto area.
and
To be fun loving, gracious, participants.
We will not accept any ugly gringo attitude.

Where Does The Money Go?
Money Collected will pay for all expenses for the Saturday night awards dinner (Beer, Soda, hors d'oeurves, etc.). All remaining money will be presented to the Padre of the Mission at the Saturday Night festivities. We usually give the church between $1,000 and $2,000 U.S. Each year the Padre reports how the money was spent. Donations in past years have been used in the following projects:

** To put in place a filtration system which runs fresh water to homes at the San Javier Mountain Mission. About ten (10) families now have fresh water faucets in their homes.

** Through the Church our tournament money helped a remote fishing village, about 45 kilometers south of Loreto, to build a pharmacy building. They also received supplies and a commitment from a doctor to visit once a month for the year.

Hope to see you there.
