INTRO. TO HUNTING AND SHOOTING SPORTS FIELD DAY JUNE 26, 2004 - Hutch00 - 05-22-2004 The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, in cooperation with more than 100 volunteers from conservation organizations throughout the state, will host its first-ever Introduction to Hunting and the Shooting Sports Field Day on June 26 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Made possible through the Hunting Heritage Partnership, a grant program of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the special event will take place on the Division's Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area in Jackson Township, Ocean County as a way to promote awareness of and interest in the shooting sports. The field day was designed to provide an outlet for those interested in learning about hunting and shooting, and a way to get started in these outdoor pursuits. Many novices find it difficult to become involved in these activities, especially if they do not have family members or friends who participate. Those who live in urban areas too, find it challenging to begin a nature-based, outdoor hobby without direction. If you are one of these individuals, then the Introduction to Hunting and the Shooting Sports Field Day is the answer. The event is specifically geared toward beginners (those without hunting licenses), ages 10 to adult. Licensed hunters are permitted to participate; however, they must bring at least one unlicensed guest to the event. Activities include a range of seminars, hands-on individualized instruction and a variety of archery and firearm shooting stations. Sessions will be conducted by the Division with support from the New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, National Rifle Association, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, United Bowhunters of New Jersey, New Jersey Outdoor Women's League, Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (national chapter), Ducks Unlimited, New Jersey Waterfowlers Association, Pheasants Forever, New Jersey Trappers Association, New Jersey Fur Harvesters, Partnership for Wildlife Education and Safari Club International. In addition, many firearm and bow manufacturer representatives will be on hand to demonstrate and sell this year's newest equipment. Hunter education information, student supplies, course locations and the fall schedule of classes will also be available. At the end of the day, unlicensed participants may sign up for a number of mentored and guided hunts in the fall by experienced hunters and outfitters. Note that completion of a hunter education course is required in order to participate in these hunts. To top it all off, a lunch of hot dogs, soda and chips will be provided free of charge. Pre-registration is required of all participants. For more information and on-line registration, visit the Division's website at: http://www.njfishandwildlife.com/field_day04.htm. [signature] |
