Online Bowhunter Education Available - FishNews - 05-08-2008

Fish, Wildlife and Parks is now offering bowhunter education over the Internet. Although the course is online, students must still take a field test to receive their bowhunter education card.


<br>Several field days are set throughout the state for online students. For more information check the National Bowhunter Education Foundation web site at www.nbef.org .<br>

<br>In the Great Falls area, prospective online students area must also attend a two-hour class before attending a field day, either May 10 or July 19.<br>

<br>Several two-hour classes are set for May and July.<br>

<br>In May they are: 1-3 p.m., May 8; 1-3 p.m., May 9; or 5-7 p.m., May 9.<br>

<br>In July they are: 1-3 p.m., July 17; 5-7 p.m., July 17; or 1-3 p.m., July 18.<br>

<br>The online course is a joint effort of FWP and the NBEF. Only students 18 years and older may take the course online, which costs $20.<br>

<br>Anyone 12-17 years old must take the conventional classroom-based course of instruction. Also prospective bowhunters ages 12 to 17 must take both hunter and bowhunter education courses before they can buy a Montana archery hunting license.<br>

<br>All first-time bowhunters, regardless of age, must complete a bowhunter education course. Montana law requires anyone buying an archery license to show either a previous year's archery license or a certificate of completion from a bowhunter education course.<br>

<br>Participants must complete a field day within a year after they taking the online portion.<br>

<br>In Montana, bowhunters must complete their classwork and field days by July 31 to qualify for 2008 fall bowhunting licenses.
