Brandywine River - Pennsylvania & Delaware - August 21, 2003 - LeapinBass - 08-21-2003

A few days of no rain is all it took to clear the creek up a bit. Lots of topwater fish today and a few larger ones. Started at Route 1 again and started throwing the 3" Big Hammer rigged on a 1/2 oz. un-skirted buzzbait head. No bites right off the bat on the topwater so I switched to the Salt Shaker Worm. Switched between the Salt Shaker and Rebel Wee-Crawfish for quite a few smallies and one largemouth.

A little ways down I gave the buzzbait/Big Hammer combo a shot again and nailed a very weird looking 17 inch bass (extreme humpback). It blew up on the lure extremely hard and fought very well with a couple of nice jumps. I continued using the Big Hammer/buzzbait combo for another nice bass (around 16 inches), a handful in the 12 - 13 inch range and lots of 10 - 12 inchers. There were stretches were the lure was getting blown up on every cast - pretty much wide open. Some of the strikes were spectacular - what topwater fishing is all about!
