Jigheads for plastic worms - KyBasser - 11-27-2001

I live near the Kentucky lake region so I get to spend a lot of time on the lake. I am still in the learning process of becoming a better angler. I am also new to using plastic worms, so my question is what size jig head would I need for a 4-6 inch worm, and is it an effective method of fishing a plastic worm besides the other types of rigs? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Justin

I fish almost exclusively in the salt but I don't hesitate to use a jig & worm setup & this past season I started folling around with jig&live seaworm rig & it is deadly...especially when they fish aren't especially aggressive...really turns them on...

Jerry Vovcsko
Moderator: Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island Forums
Jig head or rig choices can also depend on what species your hunting.

Are you after Bass or other fish? Water depth?

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com

I would be using this for bass fishing, the depth is about 15-20 feet deep. I hope this info helps?

kybasser
"The two best times to fish is when it's rainin' and when it ain't." ~Patrick F. McManus

When fishing with plastic worms I prefer the Texas rig with a 3/8 oz. bullet weight for the depths you are fishing in. Other ways are the Carolina rig with a 1/2 oz. barrel weight and glass beads above a swivel.
Don't forget the old standby, Jig and pig, it can be deadly. It may not be as forgiving as a Texas rig, but it may bring the biggest bass of your life to the boat.
If you don't mind my asking, do you day or night fish primarily?
I have other ideas for night fishing.

The other option is to use soft plastic worm hooks that have a small weight molded onto the head of the hook and just before the curve in the shaft.

Overall though, I agree that a good carolina rig is hard to go past if you make the time to rig them up which is easy once learnt.

Making up weed guards for them is also easier.

Burnin Thumbs!

Steve B
Mod-Lures/Baits & Oz Boards
http://www.demonjigs.com
