Arizona Pulls Plug On Lee Valley Reservoir - DrownedDesertRat - 09-26-2003

PINETOP, AZ—The Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) plans to drain Lee Valley Reservoir early this fall to remove unwanted rainbow and brook trout.

Located at an elevation of more than 9,000 feet in the Little Colorado River Basin, Lee Valley has been managed by the AGFD as an Arctic grayling and Apache trout fishery for approximately 10 years. 'Bows and brookies compete with these species.

I would emagin they plan to restock. quite an undertaking, they will have to restock every thing, from feeder fish all the way up to the species they are attempting to preserve.

[cool]Most of the time when they do a planned drawdown and eradication, they have a procedure in place for netting out the fish and separating the desirable ones into waters where they can survive during the renovation. At least I hope that's what they will do. Typical government procedure is to kill everything off and then spend more money to buy new ones.
