big gills and crappie - Hunter654 - 10-22-2013

i found a pond with a few buddies where we've been killing on big gills and an occasional jumbo crappie but as the water gets colder as the days go by the bites and action get less and less any tips on how to get them biting again?

regardless to what anybody says, there are just so many fish in any given pond and can get fished out vary easily... leave them a lone for a year and go back.

A single school can get totally decimated in just a day or two's harvest...

sounds good we dont keep the fish since the city has deemed it unhealthy but its a good place for kids and such we have been hitting the occasional bass here and there

If your doing catch and release on those gills, then it is just a timing thing. gills are tempered by the time of day and yes the moon and weather cycles.

this is why so many people think it is a hit and miss thing..

one of the other things that will reduce the bite from gills is the presents of a predator fish like pike or musky even cat and dog fish.

so changing riggings and target the predator when you see a drop in bite.
