Tilapia - striperdude - 11-15-2015

So I hit the lake last Wednsday to do some striper fishing. Stopped by the usual area to net some shad when I noticed the net became quite heavy. At first I thought I hit the shad mother load but when I got the net to the surface I saw the biggest tilapia I had ever seen. I have speared several of them in the past but not this size. Ended up with a couple stripers to end a nice day. I fried up that Tilapia and it was awesome. Wish I could catch a whole mess of those fish

They look like they'd be fun to catch on the ultralight.

Tilapia are always fun on an ultralight set up. I like to use a 4 or 4 1/2' ultra light rod with 2lb test. Tilapia hit on different baits in different states. I have fished them all over the world and found them biting anywhere on pieces of Hot Dog, Bologna and even on Blood Worms.

I tie a double dropshot. Weight on the bottom. 1 hook at 12 inches and one at 18inches. They tend to like that set up since it keeps their presentation just off the bottom.[cool]
