I go up here in the sloughs of the bear river in Cache Valley and it doesn't pick up until late april/early may. There is two ways of archery hunting that I do. If with a reel, I got one of those carp kits you can get at a sporting goods store ($18). I love that. If I don't fish with a reel, get some cheap arrows, get the heaviest tip and then drill a hole through the tip and insert a 2" piece of hanger through and bend it back, as a barb. When I do hunt without a reel, I always make sure I carry a spear, because the carp always take off and it's a little easier retrieving my arrow back with a spear.
Fly fishing for them is awesome! Last year at Willard I found out how fun they are when I ran into a school and put on a #14 adams. My reel hadn't screamed like that for awhile!
