CRAPPIE: Crappie anglers are catching quite a lot of fish and most of them are measurable. On a recent TWRA creel surveying check, Al had to fill out three survey forms to record all of the crappie that had been caught by anglers. Most fish are coming Fate Sanders Marina and upstream into the tributaries on the upper part of the lake. And, many of the fish are coming from water 3 to 5 feet deep, says Al. Spring Creek, Fall Creek, the West and East forks of the Stones River are all surrendering crappie. The fishing is excellent and easily the hottest fishing right now on Priest.

BASS: Bass fishing is good, also, with crankbaits continuing to catch fish in shallow water as the fish begin a search for food and spawning areas. Fish shallow first, look for flats, and even toss a buzzbait in some shallow areas, says Al. While crankbaits, such as Rat-L-Traps (chrome and blue) have been very good (and shallow-running Shad Raps), Al is seeing some fish caught on buzzbaits. No doubt a spinner bait can be very good right now, too.

HYBRIDS AND STRIPERS: Anglers during a recent national striper and hybrid tournament had an excellent tournament with many of both species caught. Live bait is always key to fishing stripers and hybrids, but if the fish are found you can spoon them up or fish buck-tail jigs in or around them. Quiet a few of the hybrids caught weighed more than 10 pounds, including two 13-pound hybrids. Most fish are in fairly deep water (15 to 20 feet), but some did move up in the tournament to feed shallow on bait. Find the bait, and chances are you will find either stripers or hybrids.
