Taylor River
#1
FISHING: Fair
Current Conditions

Flow: 310 Almont

Clarity: Excellent

Water Temperature: Low to mid 40’s

Major Food Organisms: Midges, caddis, and sporadic baetis

Hatches: Midges, caddis, and sporadic baetis

14 Day Forecast: Run-off is beginning to change the lower river. My suggestion is to fish above Spring Creek, and things get high, fish between Lottis Creek and the Dam.

Tips and Other Information: The feeder creeks are beginning to rise adding substantial water to the lower river. Bead Head Breadcrust (#16-18), Pheasant Tails (#18-20) and Sparkle Wing RS II’s have been effective in the slower deeper pools. Look for baetis in the afternoons, and a #20 Hi Vis Baetis or Sparkle Dun has been the ticket! On the upper river, fish the normal Taylor River standby patterns: #16-18 Mysis, #16 Nuclear Egg, #22 Mercury Pheasant Tails, #22 Mercury Midges, #22-24 Black Beauties, #22 Mercury Blood Midges, and #22 WD 40’s. Fishing is technical as usual but very rewarding with large, thick-bodied fish. Sight nymph when possible and watch for subtle signs of a strike (flashes and opening mouths).

Effective Patterns: #16-18 Mysis, #18-22 Pheasant Tails, #18-20 Bead Head Pheasant Tails, #18-20 Bead Hare’s Ear, #18-22 Copper John, #20-22 Mercury Baetis, #20-22 RS-II, #20-22 Mercury Midge, #20-22 San Juan Emerger, #22 Brassie, and #22-24 Dorsey’s Black Beauty.
