[Image: trnsp.gif] Question
Why am I charged sales tax on my order? [Image: trnsp.gif] Answer
Sales Tax is charged on mail-in, internet, and telephone orders as Cabela's must comply with all federal, state and local statutes which regulate intra/interstate shipment of merchandise. In other words, we are required by state law to collect taxes, on goods and services, for shipments to any state where a division of our distribution centers are located. These states include Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and upon opening, West Virginia, ( August 2004).

Since a distribution center is located in the state that the order was shipped to, the appropriate taxes must be collected.

so the guy that lives in st george or cedar city that might not want to make a 3-5 hr drive will now be taxed on all of their internet or phone orders

Sorry Southernman, I think I was one who "poo-pooed" you. Since I live in Orem, I was selfish cause I can easily drive there and get my stuff. Trade shipping charges for sales tax that at least goes into our local gov. so they can pretend to use it to bring me services but really just squander it. But that's a whole nuther subject. I guess it does suck for those of you who live so far away.

the only reason i know about it is I do internet sales, and it happened to me already . . i like www.rei.com and they opened a store in my state - 14 hr drive or something from me, and at that point i had to start paying tax on my orders, thats all . . . recently they opened up down here too, but one way or another they seem get their pound of flesh

I'm sorry to break more bad news to you, but for all you law abiding citizens you should be paying use taxes on catalog and internet sales. There is a space on your state income tax return to enter the amounts paid for items bought from locations outside Utah tax free.
