Anglers who were fishing at the White Pine County lake over the weekend told NDOW that the fishing was somewhat slow, but the fish that were taken were around 19 to 20 inches. Fish are being caught in deep water near the dam and in the channel between the upper and lower lakes. Sparkle PowerBait, worms and marshmallows are catching the fish while the favorite fly has been the flashback hare’s ear nymph.
Pete Gill from Nevada State Parks said that fishing continues to be slow despite the recent NDOW stocking. A few rainbow trout that averaged 11 inches were taken. Anglers reported better success with live worms, but PowerBait also took some fish. Boaters are still fairing better than shore anglers.
The water level is good but it is a little murky.

Boaters continued to have good results for striped bass by fishing with anchovies off Special Events Beach while shore anglers are continuing to wait for cooler weather, which should bring the fish within casting range.
The key to catching the stripers has been to chum with corn to attract the fish while baiting hooks with anchovies. The smaller fish that weigh 1 to 2 pounds are in good condition while many of the larger fish have been thin.
Stripers typically come close to shore when the water temperature drops into the 60s with the optimum fishing being found around 65 degrees, according to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW). The water temperature is now 77 degrees.
Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been caught in recent weeks around the islands near Callville Bay and Echo Bay. NDOW creel clerks said they have seen several smallmouth bass in recent weeks that topped 2 pounds.
Channel catfish have been caught recently by shore anglers at Special Events Beach, Hemenway Harbor and Stewart’s Point.
Striped bass are still being caught in the evenings on the Arizona side of the lake from Owl Point to Cottonwood Cove. The fish generally weigh less than a pound and are being taken at 20 to 30 feet with anchovies and squid.
Boaters have reported to NDOW that they have been catching and releasing largemouth bass in coves in Cottonwood Basin.
Rainbow trout fishing continues to be good following the weekly plants at Willow Beach.

Dan Maes, Assistant Installation Manager, said that as the winds subsided, anglers return to the area in very good numbers.
Anglers reported good success for rainbow trout following the recent NDOW stocking.
A few trout that measured 16 inches were taken from Cold Springs Reservoir, but the 11-inch stockers were more common.
A cold front came through the area and the low temperature dropped into the low 20s while the highs were in the low 50s.
