Lake Mead Monday
#1
Monday 07/11/05- Hit the water at 4:30 pm. The heat is on! Nice calm day to be on the water. Not much action until about 7:30 pm. Schools of small stripers (one and a half to two pounders) would chase shad to the shoreline feed. We fished several of these boils all the way to the shore. There were three times that my boat was only five feet from the shore with small stripers feeding all around us. Throw the rattletrap on the shore, tug it slowly back into the water with a "walk the dog" action and WHAM a striper would strike! Okay maybe a one and a half pound striper does not WHAM, but it was fun! We put 32 fish in the box. This was the best action I've had at Lake Mead in a long time. Two factors made this happen- perfectly calm water, and only one other boat in the area. We were able to fish these boils without disturbing them. Don used a Storm Wild Eyed Shad swimbait, I used a silver rattletrap which now has most of the finish chewed off. These stripers were spitting out very small shad ( about 3/4 of an inch long).

It's time for fish tacos!
