The fishing has always been good in Vermont, and the last decade has been especially good to anglers in search of state record fish. Of the 33 fish species eligible for state record consideration, 14 records have been set since 2001. That number is much higher than the number of state record fish caught in any of the other New England states or New York over the same time period.
Amazingly, five new state records have been since the start of 2010, including a 14.55 pound walleye caught by Richard Levesque, an 8.44 pound pike-pickerel hybrid caught by Kurin Friend, a 0.98 pound pumpkinseed sunfisetsh caught by Joseph Michaels, a 5.63 pound burbot caught by Patrick Woodward, and a 3.63 pound white sucker caught by Brian Cadoret. All of these fish, except the sucker, were caught in Lake Champlain.
These new state records are a testament to the great quality and diversity of fishing opportunities that are currently available to anglers in Vermont, so get out there and fish with your family and friends. You never know...you could set the next state record!
