Water beetles and water scorpions here in Utah?
#1
Anyone here of you good people here at BFT know if Utah has Giant Water Beetles and Water Scorpions?

I heard there are some in the Bear River but I would like to hear it from the BFT apparatus.

Both of these are "true bugs" and belong to the Hemiptera order. I know for sure that Belostomatidae (giant water bugs) do indeed exist here in Utah. I would also imagine that Nepidae (water scorpions) are also found here, due to their widespread distribution, but I have not collected any in Utah. Hope that helps.

theres a lake on skyline drive called snow lake which is full of a large beetle looking thing. They look like a croos between a bumblebee and a crawdad. I have'nt seen them anywhere else. The ones there are a little bigger than a quarter. I don't know what they are, but sounds like what you've discribed

Do these 2 species do any damage to the fisheries they are located at? Never heard of either of these "bugs" but I'll keep my eyes more open for them in all the waters I fish.
