Fishing Report: 8/1/12 to 8/7/12
. Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accommodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: Seas have been fairly calm .The water tempeatures have been 85 to 86 on the Sea of Cortez side and 82 to 84 on the Pacific side and it seems to be just the way the fish like it.
WEATHER: July weather has set in and you know what that means. Tempeatures in the 90,s with humidity in the mid 70,s. Hotter and more humid this past week.
BAIT: Caballito are in abundance this week with some Mackerel. The bait is at the standard 3$ a piece. Some frozen Ballyhoo have been found on the bait boats. Try and find fresh frozen and not refrozen.
BILLFISHING: Blue Marlin are still being caught as we write, and this past week was good for all species . Stripped Marlin were being caught really all over the place with lots of feeders. The marlin were being caught on live bait with a few taking lures inshore from the Solmar to the Margarita area . Around Sunday our own Bob Marlin caught 2 Stripped Marlin and nine Dorado. I think those guys were some happy fisherman. The Pangas have even been scoring Marlin close to shore on live bait. Our Panga caught 14 Dorado on Sunday making it a very productive day for the anglers. Not only did we knock them dead this past week I have heard reports of everyone else doing good also. So if you were in Cabo this past week. I am sure you were eating good. The water has been warm and the fish are staying in this area for that reason. I haven’t heard of any huge Blue Marlin being caught this past week, but still they are here and are being caught. The week of our last fishing report there was some large Blues caught.
TUNA: Seems as if the Tuna are here in numbers and so are the Purse Seiners. They were on the Pacific side taking lots of fish in numbers, and you can really tell, it did have an affect on the local fishing fleet. We aren’t seeing the numbers of Tuna we were seeing as I was writing the report last week. To express your opinion on this and put in a complaint go to this link

DORADO: Lots of Dorado in the 12 to 20 pound range being caught and some up to 35 pounds reported. The fish are being caught on lures and live bait from the Arch to the Pump Station on the Pacific. Really large numbers of Dorado all over the fishing grounds this past week. We know whats for dinner.
WAHOO: Havent heard a lot about any Wahoo being caught.
INSHORE: The inshore fishing has been pretty good from Arch to the Pump Station.. Tuna and Dorado being caught with some Marlin from pangas landed.. Amberjack, Groupers and Roosterfish were caught also on the Pacific side.Making it a pretty good week for inshore fishing.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat.
