Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accomodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: The water has settled pretty good since the previous week. Miriam and the rain had brought a lot of swells and dirty water from the rain run off. It seems to be back to normal. Temperatures are pretty much the same, but seas are calm. This has really made for excellent fishing.
Cabo San Lucas and the Baja peninsula offer a year-round spring and summer like climate. If your out to avoid the rainy season and the peak of humidity, you may want to book your trip during the months of December through June. July, August and September are the hottest and most humid months in Cabo. If you're an avid fisherman, don't sweat the higher temps and humidity, book your trip from August through November, as these are the peak fishing months for a wide variety of gamefish species.
Hurricane season officially runs from June through October but September is the peak. Don't panic though as most years, Los Cabos only gets brushed by a tropical storm with hurricanes coming about once every decade and they're usually Category 1 or 2 storms by the time they reach Land's End.
Ocean temperatures in Cabo San Lucas and the East Cape range from low to mid 70's in the winter and spring to mid to high 80's in the peak of summer
WEATHER: Well the last few days have been really great weather . Mostly sunny and clear days and not as hot and humid as it was week before. We might be in for a weather change in the next few days as if it feels like its changing some.

We look forward to the cooler weather just around the corner. Its really time to get to Cabo and experience the great fishing and weather. Book a trip now.
BILLFISHING: We catch and release all billfish. We started out the week with a fantastic story a 722 lb (official weight) was weighed in aboard the 46 ft Bertram "Attitude Adjustment", the fish was found 11 miles straight out from Cabo A green colored lure was what caught this fish. Congratulations to fifty eight year old Dave Smith from Atlanta and to his buddies who encouraged him, Tom Montour of Atlanta and Jack Bowen and Clint Dean from Chattanooga.
Well this past week has been another good week for billfish, Dorado, Tuna and Wahoo. What else could you ask for? On Tuesday our own Bob Marlin caught 2 Sailfish and 1 Marlin. The fish were caught on live bait and pitching the bait was working really good ,as soon as bait hit the water it is triggering the fish to hit them. Fishing from the light house as far north as golden gate about 2.5 miles offshore has been really productive. Even our Pangas were getting in on the action with some catching sailfish. On Friday we had 3 Pangas out and they were catching fish between the light house and los arcos. Our Panga caught 2 Marlin and the Bob Marlin caught 2 sailfish all in the same area with some fish taking lures and some taking live bait.
BAIT: Not as much live bait and Caballitos around. They are the normal 3 dollars a piece.
TUNA: We did run into the tunas about 10 miles straight offshore from the light house. The fish were caught on spreader bars and cedar plugs. We had 2 boats catch lots of tuna in the same area. There hasn’t been that much tuna around over the past week. All the tuna were in the 15 to 30 pound range with no reports of monsters like we saw a couple weeks ago. The tuna were caught on spreader bars and cedar plugs. All in all they were pretty scarce unless you happen to go 10 miles out and run into some porpoise.
DORADO: Now this is the fish of the week with everybody and his brother scoring big on the Dorado this past week. It seems they were everywhere and everyone was catching. Mostly caught on lures and cut bait and basically anything you threw at them they were hitting. The best area to go was Solmar to los arcos. Our Pangas have been knocking them dead over the past week. On Tuesday on the Ginney we caught 9 Dorado and on Wednesday we caught 7. The fish are running 12 to 17 lb with a few to 35 to 55 lb .pounds. Thursday we had 5 boats out and they caught a total of 46 Dorado and 1 sailfish. Later on in the week we were seeing the same results, lots of Dorado. Yesterday the Bob Marlin and another boat caught 21 Dorado. The fish over the last 2 days were loving the ballyhoo. We were knocking them dead with ballyhoo. Wow what a week for Dorado.
INSHORE: The inshore fishing has improved lots since previous week. No swells to contend with and great weather so fishing has gotten better. Lots of good panga action from Roosterfish to Dorado. Its really been productive close to shore within 2.5 miles has been the area we have been catching fish all week. Some of the local grouper fisherman are kicking ass with some in the 40 to 60 pound range reported. The snapper bite has also been good over the last week some from 25 to 45 pounds being caught. Fishing has been fantastic over the last week for about everything. Its time to come to Cabo and go for the adventure of a life time.
WAHOO: We ll we have been waiting for this and it has finally happened the Wahoo are around and lots of reports of Wahoo being caught. We had 1 Wahoo caught on ballyhoo yesterday about 30lb. They are here and there has been some good size ones caught. The Yacht Falcon" caught the largest one at 44 lbs on a Petrolero lure at Cerro de Arena. So there here in the area and that is good news to us all. It has been really scarce for Wahoo over the last few weeks. Maybe things have turned a corner.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat.
