Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accomodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.

On the Pacific side we are seeing temps as low as 74 to 75 according to Terra Fin. Gordo Banks area had temps in the low 80,s a couple days ago. So we are seeing a temperature change of 6 to 7 degrees from one area to the other. The average water temp now is around 79 degrees compared to a couple weeks ago when it was 84 to 85. So some big changes.
WEATHER: The weather has been pretty good with temps in the ladder 70,s to lows in the low 60,s. It has gradually cooled at night over the last week. Really our cooler weather hadn’t set in till about this week. It has been warmer than normal through November and December. As I sit and write the report today its about 76 and sunny with some clouds but all in all really nice.
BILLFISHING: Lots of good Marlin fishing happening this past week, up and around the Pump House we have been seeing lots of action on Striped Marlin. They seem to be about 2 to 4 miles off shore and are biting on lures and some on casting bait to the tailers. We have had an average of 1 marlin a day on our own Bob Marlin. One of those Striped Marlin was 190 pounds, a big striped marlin. We have not seen much if at all Blue or Black Marlin action. The water temp has cooled off quite a bit so this has had an effect on the Marlin the fishing. We do expect the Striped Marlin fishing to stay good but the Blue and Blacks are going to be limited from now on out. Really the focus for Marlin has been on the Pacific side all the way up to San Cristobel.
.BAIT: Bait is the standard 3.00 dollares a piece and there has been plenty around. On Tuesday and Wednesday we ran into some Tuna swimming with the Porpoise.
TUNA: Really all the Tuna have been caught in the Gordo Banks area of the fishing grounds. I did hear of reports of some good size Tuna being caught there. A couple of them were around a 100 pounds. That is quite a run for us to make every day. Really the Tuna fishing hasn’t been to hot. Few and far between. Some smaller Tuna have been caught on the Pacific side but nothing of any size really. Most are 10 to 30 pounds. Kite fishing has been a way to score on the Tuna when you run into them.
DORADO: The Bob marlin all week has been kicking ass on the Dorado fishing, with our boat catching 3 to 7 Dorado a trip. The Dorado are good size from 17 to 35 pounds. The Dorado have been biting lures, ballyhoo and live bait. It isn’t as good as it was like 2 weeks ago but it has been pretty decent for Dorado from Gordo Banks to the Pacific side. All areas were producing just not in the numbers that we were seeing but it is still good.
INSHORE: The Sierras are starting to show up with the cooler water. Its still a little early for them but they are starting to be caught on Hoochies just off the Solmar and all the way up to the Light House. There also has been reports of Yellow Tail to 20 pounds in the same area as the Sierra. The Yellow Tail were being caught on Rapalas. Roosterfish have been taken up off of San Jose with a couple to 40 pounds. Some snappers and Grouper taken in 40 to 50 feet of water using cut bait. Some of the local guys do real well on the Pacific side using this method and hand lines.
WAHOO: We have been doing pretty good with the Wahoo. A good friend of ours did catch 3 nice Wahoo with one of them going to 54 pounds. All the fish were caught between the Pump House and Los Arcos about 2 miles offshore while trolling for Marlin. They also picked up 5 Dorado on that trip. So Wahoo are still around and you really don’t know when you will catch one of them. If you do you will have one of the best dinners you have ever had.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and don’t even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They don’t even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and don’t care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who don’t have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat.
