Fun With 'Cuda, Goliaths, Shark & A A Keeper Gag: Bonita Beach, FL Fishbuster Dave
#1
[cool][font "Arial"][size 2]Winds and seas were relentless most of the week, but we got a slight reprieve on Thursday, when the seas were about three feet—Not ideal, but definitely better than 6 feet! I fished Thursday at the reefs, about 6 miles off New Pass, with Gary Bell and sons Paul and Winfield. Using live shrimp, we caught mangrove snapper, porgies, and an 18 inch permit, and released blue runners and gag grouper shorts. We also hooked up on a 5 foot barracuda, and fought it for about ten minutes, until it pulled off. We re-baited with a white porgie, and hooked up on a huge goliath grouper, which pulled my 6000 pound boat around for about 30 minutes, before hitting a snag and breaking the line. We put a blue runner on for bait, and caught and released a 5 foot nurse shark.

Saturday, I fished at the reefs with Gregg Gifford, six year old son Brandon, and Brandon’s Uncle Robert. We caught a 27 inch gag grouper, six keeper mangrove snapper, keeper Spanish mackerel, triggerfish, porfish, and blue runners. We released all but the grouper and snapper. We had two goliath grouper battles, which broke our lines, and left us with only bruises and good stories to tell. The photo attached is of anglers Paul Oleff and Lou Citterman with a 23 inch gag grouper and 19 inch mangrove snapper, caught on a recent Fishbuster Charter.
