Vancouver Island Salmon & Halibut Report
#1
Wow, the fishing is still just awesome right now. Very good numbers of larger Chinok (king) salmon and crazy numbers of Coho (silver) salmon. In fact the challenge is trying to find a place to fish for Chinook where the Coho are less plentiful so you can keep your gear fishing. Twenty to 30 Coho a trip is easy right now. What is fun is casting to them while sitting on the anchor fishing for halibut. Normally halibut fishing in my mind is a bit dull, sitting in one place waiting for them to find your scent trail and then bite. With so many Coho around that wait time can be filled by casting buzz bombs, Zillda's etc to them with very light tackle. Beautiful summer so far this season, sunny warm and nice water. Most days are in the mid to high 70's and low humidity. And no bugs!!!
