I have managed to get out to 8 mile four times in the last week and a half to launch the kayak and check the fish status , nothing in the way of any fish other than shad , several beds already out of the water , found a few lures in the now exposed trees and shrubs . Cant believe how quickly the shoreline can change when the water is dropping that quickly . When will the dump stop ? Is Mojave holding for awhile ?

Ya its a shame. This is the time of year lakes are supposed to gain water and we are flushin it rite down stream... just in time to kill the spawn. Mohave stays pretty consistent all year except when they clean the damn sucker ponds.

The water is going to Mexico, we held their water so they could repair their cannels. Now they want their share and we are giving it to them.

California is also taking 400,000 acre feet from its bank this year as well. That's almost an additional 10% and more than NV's entire allocation...

Vegas Sun predicts 35 ft drop this year. I wonder how far down those launch ramps extend? I can't imagine they are too much longer.

Won't matter how far they go down with the launch ramp. There won't be a harbor or marina to launch from.

Look at Echo Bay, if it wasn't for the point they paved a ramp on you could not get out of the harbor.

They did some work on Boulder harbor around 2010 when the water was low. Including dredging the middle of the harbor channel.

If we drop 6-8 more feet it will be one boat wide access in/out of the harbor.

The bureau of reclamation released a statement saying that this week was going to be an extremely high flow week on the river due to Southern California taking their allotment early and the flooding of the Colorado River Delta in Mexico. I have never seen the river run this hard. The area around Mile Marker 60 is downright nasty, with whirlpools and ugly converging currents. The lake should stabilize in the next few days. They said they would be dumping water for a ten day period.

Ya pretty grim to say the least. I'm pretty sure the powers that be in utah sure as hell ain't gonna let powell go dry. That state has some backbone and ours really dosent. That being said if the science says its the better option I'm all for it but money seems to trump sciene everytime anymore. And ifs funny how that story only talked about AZ. & NV using the water from mead and really nothing bout california taking the majority of it.

I love the idea of draining Powell, I think I need to get involved with them and stop being just another frustrated dude.

Do these articles (and the commenters) keep ignoring California's water use because they somehow get a pass because of all the agriculture, or does the general population just not know California is supposed to be a desert too? A desert with massive farms with even more massively wasteful water usage practices.

In parts of India (I think, may have been elsewhere) they have started covering their open canals with solar panels, reducing evaporation and generating a bit of energy. But California, the "progressive" state, continues to suck out as much water as they can from their neighbors, and run it through hundreds of miles of open canals.

Sorry for the rant, I seem to be getting angrier the closer I get to 30.

This is not the first time California has "stolen water"

Water Wars
In the 1920s, Owens Valley residents grew Angry and frustrated after seeing their farms drained of water, nearly every drop of which was pumped into the steadily growing San Fernando Valley. In 1924 and again in 1927, protesters blew up parts of the aqueduct, marking a particularly explosive chapter in the so-called “water wars” that had divided southern California.

1093 today... that's 10ft in just over a month and 15 since mid February. That should be f@ckin illegal! !! I read some projections from the reclamation website and they say 1082 by july. Probly won't be able to launch on the jetti at echo and for sure not at boulder harbor.

Well considering the lake is almost the lowest ist been since it started filling up in the '30's I don't think so. Its only 12' above the most recent low mark of 1081 in 07 I believe we are almost out of ramp out there. The end of that ramp on the point is only7' deep rite now and its projected to drop more than 10 more feet. Maybe the main ramp is still gonna be wet but not that one.
