Trout fishing is different all over the US. Some trout chase flashy lures, others chase simple spinners. Some may chase bait imitations and others prefer the real live worm.

Some like powerbait brand stuff and others just like a little garlic or cheese scent in whatever you throw out.

It is important to keep your line size to a minimum. Some Trout are line shy and others don't care as much.

I have caught Trout all over the US with 2lb test as a "Go To" line. In some areas I have been able to bump up to a 4 or 6lb line but only using a flourocarbon which is practically invisible.

I have used 2lb to catch 15 to 18lb trout where even 4lb would turn them running the other direction. Trout are line shy in most cases.

If you go to a place where Trout are farm raised, you may be able to catch a 2lb trout or smaller on 6lb line. It all depend on the area you are fishing and what the fish are used to biting on.
