Creating Links
#1
[cool][#0000ff]Several BFT members have learned the trick of creating their own descriptive links, rather than just copying and pasting the complete website address from a site they want to share with other members. Some members have trouble with even the simple copy and paste technique, because of computer or software differences...or because of a recessive geek gene.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Here is a step by step to follow for adding links to your posts:[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]A or B...EITHER METHOD...FIRST STEPS:[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1. While viewing the site you wish to share, find the address line near the top of the page. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]2. Highlight the address by left clicking on that line (you may have to drag the cursor over the line). [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]3. Right click to display the options menu. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]4. Left click on "Copy" to capture the address. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]5. Close the site, or minimize it to open up the screen. The address is saved, waiting for you to do something with it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]A...COPY AND PASTE METHOD: (after capturing the address from the website)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1. Begin or finish your post...either as a new post or a reply to another member. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]2. Decide where you want to insert the link to your shared website.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]3. Left click where you want the link, to create a blinking cursor.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]4. Right click to display options menu.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]5. Left click on "Paste" and the link appears in your post.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]6. Click on "Post Message" when you have finished your post, and you will have a working link once posted on the board.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]7. Double check your post and link.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]B...CREATE A LINK: (after capturing the address from the website)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1. While still working on an open post, decide where you want to place your link.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]2. Left click to create a blinking cursor.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]3. Compose your choice of a short but descriptive link (Examples: LINK TO ARTICLE...CHECK THIS OUT...etc.)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]4. Highlight your link words by dragging over them with a left click.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]5. The little "chain link" icon ([Image: link.gif]) at the far right side of the tool bar now lights up. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]6. Left click on the link icon to bring up the box to add the site address.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]7. Find the "URL" line. Highlight and delete the "http://" in the box, if you have copied the complete website address. (Leave it, if you are typing in the address)[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]8. With the blinking cursor in the URL box, right click to bring up the options menu.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]9. Left click on "Paste", and your shared website address will appear on that line.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]10. Left click on "Submit" and the box disappears.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]11. Left click beside your highlighted link words in your post (to remove the highlight), and the link is complete.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]12. Complete your post and click on "Post Message". The link will not work until you post it. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]13. Double check your link before other BFT members do. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]14. After a couple of practice runs, it will become much easier.[/#0000ff]
