My mistake for not asking if it was a spinning reel or bait caster. The line can be a dog on baitcasters. I use spinning reels all the time, just what I'm use to. Another trick I do is to put a small piece of bandaid to the spool before I put the line on. Keeps it from spinning on the reel.
