I beleive what you are to are called "cleats" they sell for 5-8 sawbucks and are worth twice their weight in gold when walking on ice that is not snow covered or especialy wet.
they strap on your boots, one size fits all. I have my self not used them in years but I dont normaly fish ice that is not snow covered. yes I would at least pack them in your bucket so you can throw them on in a moments notice if you run in to slick ice.
for the price there a great investment when you concider the alternitive of being layed up and missing work for weeks due to a broken hip. My brother broke both hips one after the other on the ice. He dont go ice fishing any more. for that matter he dont go on the ice at all period.
