Most who have fished for sturgeon have stories of their leaping ability.  They are known to leap clear of the water both while hooked and not hooked.  It would seem to take a lot of power to get a fish that size airborne.  Here are some pics available online...along with an old pic of a biggun from Idaho in the olden days.
